Does anyone else have the Jan-Febs? You know, those dreary January-February blues, punctuated by cloudy skies and chilly, damp weather. Well, if you do, we've got good news for you!

The SouL Dance Studio with our adult group classes is the warmest and brightest spot in all of Florida this February! Kick those winter blues and come join us on the dance floor for exciting West Coast Swing, Foxtrot, Salsa, and Bachata!

Intermediate Level West Coast Swing Classes

What is West Coast Swing?

West Coast Swing is a popular partner dance that originated in the United States in the 1930s and 1940s. It is a smooth and stylish dance that is characterized by its use of slots (imaginary lines on the dance floor), partner connection, and musicality.

What to Expect?

• Improvisation: West Coast Swing is an improvisational dance, which means that there are no set routines. We'll teach you how to express your own creativity and personality in your dancing.
• Social: West Coast Swing is a social dance, which means that it is a great way to meet new people and make friends. Come join us for our group lessons this month to beat the last of those winter blues and meet other WC Swing dancers!
• Physical activity: West Coast Swing is a great form of exercise. It provides a cardiovascular workout and helps to improve coordination, balance, and flexibility.

What is Foxtrot Dancing?

The foxtrot is a smooth and graceful ballroom dance characterized by long, flowing movements across the dance floor. It's often danced to big band music in 4/4 time, giving it a cheerful and sophisticated feel.

Here are the basic steps for the Foxtrot:

• Primarily walking steps and quick steps combined in various patterns.
• The most common footwork sequence is "slow-quick-quick" or "slow-slow-quick-quick" repeated throughout the dance.
• Partners maintain a connection while moving around the dance floor, creating a flowing and elegant look.

Upcoming Dance Showcase in March!

SouL Dance is performing in the Spring Showcase at Sara Dance Center on March 16th. Our January showcase was beyond amazing, with so many wonderful routines by our talented students. This event is sure to be as exciting, and our students are already hard at work on modifying and creating new routines!

Winter Competitions 2024

We’re also excited to announce several local competitions coming up soon! Many of these will be in Florida, from Miami to Jacksonville.

Sanda will be competing in the professional Open Ballroom and Latin styles with her dance partner at the Platinum Dancesport Classic event this weekend in Miami. Next weekend she’ll be at the Florida Star Ball in St. Pete with one of her competitive students and her professional partner.
